What Is Our Interest and How Many Weapons Does Ukraine Need?

The United States and our NATO allies continue to systematically support Ukraine in its defense against Putin’s aggression. This support began in 2014 when Putin first attacked and seized Ukraine’s southern region, the Crimean Peninsula. Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, this assistance has increased significantly.

But how should we evaluate it? Was it too little or too much? Is our assistance sufficient? What criteria should be used to evaluate the assistance provided?

First, we need to understand what our goal is. What goal would be in the interests of the American people? What is our strategy?

If our government’s goal is to pretend that we are doing something, that we are concerned and very worried, then the US government is doing a pretty good job of that. The amount of weapons and equipment provided does not allow Ukrainians to lose the war very quickly. Russian generals are leading their troops to their deaths, suffering heavy losses and slowly advancing. Ukrainian defenders, lacking weapons and equipment, are suffering losses, inflicting heavy losses on the Russians and gradually retreating.
If that is the goal of the US, then everything is fine — the goal has been achieved.
But what if that is not our goal? What if the interests of the American nation are quite the opposite? For example, that the Ukrainian military defend their country and drive the aggressor beyond its official borders. And in addition to this, they become so strong that Putin is afraid to attack anyone else. Including so that Russia can never attack any of the NATO countries — especially the Baltic states.

If Russia does not attack the Baltic NATO countries, then we will not need to send our boys to defend our allies.

In other words, our government can now invest in the Ukrainian army and thereby ensure peace and tranquility in Central Europe for a very long time. Or we can continue to do nothing and eventually send American troops to fight Putin’s war. Perhaps then our government will want to pay compensation for the dead and wounded American soldiers? Definitely not!

The interests of the American nation are peace, security, and stable development!
In three and a half years, we and our allies have given the Ukrainian defenders a pittance. And yet, while retreating, they managed to kill about one million of Putin’s invaders, shoot down more than 760 helicopters and aircraft, and destroy more than 34,000 pieces of armored equipment. Russia’s military power has been broken to such an extent that Putin has been unable to do anything in Syria or the Caucasus.

When we provide Ukrainians with everything they need, they will sweep away Putin’s supporters like a hurricane! In doing so, they will ensure security for us and our NATO allies.
So how much military aid should be provided to Ukraine?

The answer is very simple. The criterion for the volume of supplies is the direction of the front line. Currently, the front line is moving from the Ukrainian border deeper into the country. Slowly, but surely. The Russians are suffering heavy losses, but they are advancing slowly. Therefore, the conclusion is obvious — our assistance is currently insufficient.

And vice versa. When the front line begins to move in the opposite direction — from the center of Ukraine to its state borders — then it will mean that our assistance is sufficient.

For example, during World War II, the US and Britain supplied the Soviet Union with 14,000 aircraft and 11,000 tanks. Now, in this Putin war, the US has given Ukraine 31 Abrams tanks and 0 planes.
Now the Russians are continuing their offensive and gradually capturing Ukrainian villages…
