Latvia will provide approximately two million euros for the NATO initiative to supply Ukraine with American weapons. According to Delfi, this was announced by Prime Minister Evika Silina after a government meeting on Tuesday.
On August 12, the Latvian government discussed participation in the NATO initiative to provide Ukraine with the necessary American weapons. After the meeting, Silina announced that Latvia would join the initiative.
“The amount of Latvia’s financial contribution to this initiative will be specified, but it will be no less than 2 million euros,” the prime minister said.
Latvia’s readiness to join was known last week after a conversation between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Edgars Rinkēvičs, but no details were given.
As a reminder, the US and NATO have launched a new mechanism for providing American weapons to Ukraine – the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which provides for financing through contributions from other Alliance members.
Within the framework of PURL, the Netherlands has prepared a $500 million aid package for Ukraine, which includes components and missiles for the Patriot air defense system. Sweden, Norway, and Denmark will jointly allocate about $500 million.
Unofficially, it is known that the first deliveries of weapons and ammunition under the PURL initiative will begin in the coming weeks.
