Seven people have been detained in Azerbaijan during operational measures at the Baku branch of the Russian propaganda agency Rossiya Segodnya (Sputnik Azerbaijan). This development was reported by the APA agency.
In addition, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case against Sputnik Azerbaijan.
The case was opened under articles of the Criminal Code on fraud, illegal entrepreneurship, and legalization of property obtained by criminal means. Investigative measures in the criminal case are ongoing.
On Monday afternoon, Azerbaijan announced the detention of two Russian FSB agents who were working undercover at the Sputnik Azerbaijan propaganda agency.
It later became known that the detainees were Sputnik Azerbaijan’s executive director Igor Kartavykh and editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov.
The arrests took place against the backdrop of a scandal with Russia, which erupted after more than 50 people from Azerbaijan were detained in Yekaterinburg by Russian security forces in connection with an unsolved criminal case involving the murder of Yunis Pashayev in 2001.
