New Source of Funding For American Weapons For Ukraine

The US has developed a new plan for arming Ukraine: it proposes creating a special fund to accumulate funds for the purchase of weapons.

The corresponding bill, called the PEACE Act (short for Providing Equipment and Capabilities to Ensure Allies Can Thrive Act), was introduced by two influential Republican senators, Roger Wicker and Jim Risch.

Its adoption will allow US allies to finance the supply of American weapons and military equipment to Ukraine, in line with the idea actively promoted by President Donald Trump.
It involves the creation of a special fund within the US Department of the Treasury, which will accumulate billions of dollars each year to support Ukrainian resistance.

This is the first detailed legislative initiative that specifies how the current White House administration will implement its plan to rearm Ukraine at the expense of European allies.

According to senators’ aides, the bill provides for the creation of a special fund within the US Treasury Department, which will receive contributions from allies. The US Secretary of Defense will be able to use these funds to pay for contracts to replenish US arsenals, from which aid to Ukraine is provided.
This will allow the United States to continue supplying weapons to Kyiv without compromising its own defense capabilities. The fund is expected to accumulate about $5-8 billion annually. Germany and the United Kingdom are named as likely donors.

This money will be used to conclude contracts with American arms manufacturers, and the weapons produced will replenish American warehouses, from where they will be sent to Ukraine.
The White House has responded positively to the idea. The bill may be incorporated into next year’s defense policy bill, which is scheduled to be passed a little later.
