The European Union is working on new sanctions against Russia and additional support for the Ukrainian military, although it supports peace talks under the auspices of the United States.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, wrote this on Twitter after the conclusion of the Ukrainian block of discussions during the extraordinary meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs on July 11.
The EU foreign policy chief believes that stronger sanctions against Russia are necessary to force it to stop its aggressive war against Ukraine, as peace talks under the auspices of the United States have been going on for months and there is no guarantee that they will bring a positive result.
“The EU foreign ministers today expressed support for US steps aimed at achieving a just peace,” Kallas wrote.
She informed us that “at the same time, we are working on new sanctions against Russia, additional military support for Ukraine, and increased assistance for the needs of the Ukrainian budget and the process of its accession to the EU.”
“Transatlantic unity, support for Ukraine, and pressure on Russia—this is how we will end this war and prevent future Russian aggression in Europe,” Kaja Kallas emphasized.
The meeting of EU foreign ministers as of the time of publication of this news has not yet ended.
Earlier it was reported that over the weekend, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would not make territorial concessions to Russia during the discussion of the peace agreement and noted that “the answer to the Ukrainian territorial issue is already in the Constitution of Ukraine.”
Possible territorial concessions by Ukraine to Russia during the discussion of the peace agreement were discussed during the negotiations between the US representative Witkoff and the Kremlin, according to global media.
