North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is sending troops to help his Russian counterpart. This was stated by the South Korean Defense Minister. Seoul could respond to this by supporting Ukraine with equipment.
As a reminder, back in the 1990s, Russia supplied tanks and armored personnel carriers to South Korea. It was a payment for the Soviet Union’s $1.5 billion debt. The South Korean army used these armored vehicles to simulate the aggressor’s troops during various exercises. That is, these T-80Us and BMP-3s are not critically important for South Korea itself, even despite the constant threat from the DPRK.
South Korea has about 40 T-80U tanks and about 70 BMP-3s. Today, this equipment has problems with its technical condition. But on the other hand, such vehicles could be useful for the Ukrainian Armed Forces even as “spare parts donors.”
It is also known that South Korea has more than 3 million 105 mm shells and 200 howitzers for them. This equipment is to some extent “surplus” for Seoul.
At one time, Czech President Petr Pavel showed the world an example of supporting a country that is defending itself against an aggressor. Petr Pavel found 800,000 155 mm shells available from third countries. France, the Netherlands, Norway, Lithuania, and Germany responded to his initiative.
We need to do the same now! When the Russian Empire is making every effort to capture a small free state. And asks dictatorial regimes for troops. It is now that the entire civilized world needs to consolidate and support Ukraine!
