The US has approved the sale of $105 million worth of Patriot equipment to Ukraine. This was reported by the US Department of Defense’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency. The US State Department supported the sale, and the Agency granted the appropriate authorization to sell the equipment to Ukraine, also notifying Congress.
The decision was made after the Ukrainian military requested the purchase of necessary components related to Patriot maintenance. In addition to the package, the modernization of M901 launchers to the M903 configuration is included.
The sales package also includes:
– a list of classified and unclassified additions;
– auxiliary equipment and supplies for it;
– spare parts;
– training and accessories;
– related logistics and program support elements;
– other necessary services.
“The proposed sale will contribute to US foreign policy and national security objectives by improving the security situation of a partner state,” the communiqué said.
In addition, the Agency clearly noted that this “sale will improve Ukraine’s ability to counter current and future threats by equipping it with more powerful means to conduct self-defense operations and ensure regional security. Ukraine will easily equip its armed forces with these goods and services.”
As a reminder, in early November, Germans transferred two Patriot systems to the Ukrainian military.
