Almost 70% of Americans support US military aid to Ukraine and increased sanctions pressure on Russia, with support among Republicans even higher.
This is evidenced by the results of a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, which collected data in early October from more than 2,400 registered voters.
When asked whether the Trump administration should continue to provide weapons to Ukraine and impose additional sanctions on Russia if the Kremlin evades negotiations, 68% answered in the affirmative, while 32% supported the view that this should not be done in order to avoid conflict with Russia.
Among Republicans, support for providing weapons and sanctions is even one percentage point higher than among Democrats.
This significant shift in Republican voters’ attitudes came shortly after Trump himself and some members of his administration began to speak favorably about sanctions and military aid to Kyiv, and Trump began to send public signals about providing Ukraine with the latest weapons, including Tomahawk missiles.
