Is Trump Really An Agent of Russian Influence?

Trump is a Russian agent! That is how his Portuguese counterpart assessed the actions of the American president. Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that “the leader of the world’s greatest superpower is, objectively speaking, a Soviet, or rather Russian, agent. He functions as an agent,” said the Portuguese leader, speaking about the actions of the US president in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The Portuguese president stressed that this is not about “an alliance based on friendship, economic, ideological, or doctrinal proximity. I am saying that, from an objective point of view, the new American leadership has strategically helped the Russian Federation.”

Let’s try to figure out how true this is.

When analyzing any politician, it is worth analyzing both the actions of the official and the absence of certain actions. The absence of actions that could have been taken but for certain reasons were not implemented.
Words, statements, and promises are also actions; they are a certain position that has been expressed and made public. Failure to realize certain potential (organizational, financial, economic, political, diplomatic, military) is avoidance of a specific action.

Accidental or intentional? That is for our readers to decide.

So, what did Trump not do?

1. Trump did not impose tough sanctions on the Russian economy.

2. Trump did not disconnect all Russian banks from the SWIFT international payment system.

3. Trump did not provide Ukraine with sufficient weapons to defend itself against missiles and begin liberating its territories from the aggressor. Trump did not launch the Lend-Lease program, under which Ukraine could have received everything it needed from the US.

But here is what Trump has already managed to do:

1. Trump did not fulfill his promise to end the war in 24 hours. Although he said this more than 50 times.

2. Trump promised four times to take tough measures in two weeks. He never fulfilled his promise.

3. Trump promised to give Putin a tough response for refusing to cease fire in 50 days. But he did not keep his word.

4. Trump closed the American unit that was investigating crimes committed by Russian military personnel during the attack on Ukraine.

5. Trump closed the American group that was tracking Ukrainian children kidnapped from Ukraine and taken to Russia.

6. Trump brought dictator Putin out of international diplomatic isolation, invited him to the US, and held a personal meeting with him.

7. For more than seven months, Trump has been stalling, trying with all his might to avert pressure on Russia.
