Poland detains a suspected Russian spy

Polish law enforcement officers have detained a man on charges of spying for Russia. This incident was reported in a statement by the Polish National Prosecutor’s Office.

The Mazovian branch of the Polish National Prosecutor’s Office reported the detention of 28-year-old Viktor Z., who is suspected of passing information to the Russian intelligence service that could harm Poland’s security.

The arrest took place on June 4 at the initiative of the prosecutor, after which searches were conducted at several locations in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Viktor Z. was charged with espionage under Article 130 of the Polish Criminal Code (espionage).

The investigation stated that from February 28, 2024, to April 30, 2025, the detainee collected and transmitted secret information about objects of critical defense importance.

The man faces a long prison sentence—from eight years to life. He is currently in custody for three months. According to the investigation, the suspect’s actions were motivated by pro-Russian ideas.

At the end of May, three suspects were charged in Germany with working for Russian special services, which, according to the investigation, were spying on a veteran who fought in the Ukrainian defense forces.

It was also reported that a trial had begun in Bavaria against three people believed to have been recruited by Russian agents to carry out sabotage in Germany.

Earlier in May, German media reported on the arrests in Germany and Switzerland of individuals who allegedly had been instructed by Russian special services to send parcels containing explosive devices. The suspects are Ukrainian nationals.
