Ursula von der Leyen announced an agreement with Ukraine to allocate two billion euros for drone technology. This was announced at a joint press conference by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Ursula said: “We have agreed with Ukraine that a total of €2 billion will be spent on unmanned aerial vehicles. This will now enable Ukraine to increase its capacity and fully exploit its potential.”
According to her, this will also allow the European Union to take advantage of this technology. Von der Leyen stressed that it is necessary to continue and strengthen military support for Ukraine, “if we believe that Ukraine is the first line of our defense”.
Recall that in early September, von der Leyen announced the allocation of a €6 billion advance loan, financed by proceeds from frozen Russian assets, for the production of drones for Ukraine.
European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius also called for the urgent development of a “drone wall” on the eastern flank of the EU, commenting on the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones. In creating the “drone wall”, the European Union will rely on technologies that have proven themselves in the defense of Ukraine.
